Soldier suicides on the rise



One of the great tragedies of the war in Iraq is the growing numbers of US soldiers committing suicide. A recent report from the American Army reported a significant increase in the number of soldiers. According to the Col. Elspeth Ritchie, Director of Proponency of Behavioral Health, the surge of suicides has increase and it is increasing more year after year. Not much said Col. Ritchie, but by a significant number since the war started.

In 2007 there were 115 suicides compared to 102 in 2006, and one quarter of the suicides occurred in Iraq or Afghanistan and whatever the reason of the increasing suicides the war is a contributing factor.
