Polygamists win on state appeals court

A Texas appeals court has ruled that the State illegally removed 400 children from a polygamist ranch in El Dorado, Texas last month. The ranch was used by the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, who claimed they were being persecuted for their religious beliefs.

Mothers from the Yearning For Zion Ranch expressed relief yesterday on the news that the appeals court decision that the State has no right to keep the children in custody. The court ruled that there was not enough evidence that justified the removal of the children from the ranch, as the State failed to show any immediate danger to physical health or safety of the children.
